Monarchs lose to the Cardinals in the first round of the MAC-SBC Challenge

The Old Dominion women's basketball team loses 46-60 in their season opener versus the Ball State Cardinals. ODU vs. Ball State was a MAC-SBC challenge game played on Nov. 4th. ODU started slow against the Ball State Cardinals and missed shots from the field. In the beginning Ball State went on a 8 - 0 run. This run meant the Monarchs had to chase the Cardinals down.
Kelsey Thompson scored the first two points for the Monarchs at the free throw line. The Monarchs shot 25 percent from the field, 12.5 percent from the perimeter, and 75 percent from the free-throw versus the Cardinals. Ball State managed to shoot 43.4 percent from the field. K. Thompson for the Monarchs seen the ball fall into the net twice at the free throw line and took 12 shots from the field and missed.
Mariah Clayton for the Monarchs led the team in scoring and rebounds. She was able to score 13 points and grab eight rebounds. Becki for the Ball State Cardinals led the team in scoring with 13 points. Kiefer for the Cardinals pulled in a total of 11 rebounds, 10 of those being defensive rebounds. The Monarchs grabbed a total of 45 rebounds five more than the Ball State Cardinals.
En'dya Buford one of the Monarchs top players only connected three out of 11 shots from the field. Simaru Fields grabbed some boards and contributed to the teams 46, bringing in six rebounds and seven points. Simone Cunningham didn't perform at her best, committing five personal fouls, grabbing one rebound, and scoring three points. The Old Dominion Monarchs vs. Ball State Cardinals is a MAC-SBC challenge game.
The MAC-SBC challenge schedules teams with comparable strengths and is an opportunity to lock-in home games for basketball. This year's MAC-SBC challenge starting Nov. 4th will consist of the Sun Belt's Women at MAC Women and MAC's Men at Sun Belt Men. The MAC-SBC challenge has been extended through the 2026 - 27 season. Old Dominion women's basketball plays SMU Mustangs next on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 2 pm.
