The Little Wise Ones

Proverbs 30:24-25 "There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." An ant, so little, but yet so wise. Have you ever seen the hardworking ant at a cookout, picking up the piece of bread crumb that fell from your mouth when you took a bite? Did you kill it? Did you watch it go on its merry way to take it back to the colony? That ant was preparing for the winter time. "Yet they prepare their meat in the summer."

In Proverbs 6:6-11, Solomon tells the sluggard, "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. The ant having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall the poverty come as one that makes a journey, and your need will come like an armed man making you helpless."

Every now and then the sleep can be a little too good, and we say to ourselves, "just a couple more minutes." Then a couple of minutes turns into ten, ten minutes turns into thirty, and thirty turns into a hour. Now what could've been a productive hour has turned into an unproductive hour. Can you imagine, the line of ants going back and forth, and carrying the food to the colony? I remember 4th of July nights at my grandma house seeing the ants working from sun up to sun down. They may not be strong but they are wise. The ant gets what it needs in the summer, so they can enjoy the fruits of their labor in the winter. Sometimes I marvel at God's creation. The ant has a purpose and provides also.

Now, the Queen ant. Queen ants have two primary roles. Early in their lives, they are programmed to begin creating a new colony. After exiting her birth colony and mating, this young queen will find a new nest site and lay her initial group of eggs. Once those larvae have matured and can take care of her, the queen turns her focus to the next stage of her life: Becoming an egg-laying machine. In fact, some queens can produce millions of eggs in a lifetime. That's why it's so many ants! I think I need to talk to Ant-Man about this one.
